Wake up in the morning feeling like…..

The Valley of Ashes in the Great Gatsby represent the poor being taken advantage of by the rich. Doctor T.J. Eckleburg in this situation is the rich, taking advantage of the “ashy-gray men” whom reside in the valley of ashes. Not only this though, but the valley of ashes is the perfect place to hide your secrets (affairs). As nobody can see through the “impenetrable clouds” that are hovering over this baron land.

Today, we could make sense of this valley of ashes in a place like Hollywood. But instead of having ashy gray men and some impenetrable clouds hiding secrets, we have glamour and masks that are hiding these secrets in plain sight. Now I could beat around the bush and talk about something like how Kylie Jenner got her bbl removed, but that would be silly! What I really want to discuss though, is how recently one of Hollywoods biggest secrets has been brought to our attention.

Celebrities such as Beyoncé, Jay Z, Michael Jackson, and the man Diddy himself were involved in this. Even though many people already know, let me give you the basic rundown. P. Diddy is a famous rapper who recently was arrested with the charges of sex trafficking. Loads of evidence was found against him such as the baby oils, but social media really focused on these parties that Diddy held. Celebrities would attend these crazy parties where many inappropriate activities would happen. What’s even crazier is that many speculate that he was the center of celebrity deaths such as Tupac, and Michael Jackson. Many are now bringing up the fact that in one of Michael Jackson’s song, there’s a certain lyric that goes “I always feel like somebody’s watching me.” Just recently federal agents found a tunnel leading from Diddy’s house to Michael Jackson’s house (bizarre!!)

What else could Hollywood be hiding!

  1. I love how you connected the Great Gatsby to something happening in our lives right now. Although Diddy and the book may seem to have no similarities at all you really tie them together.

  2. I really enjoyed how you took the culture of the rich as seen in the Great Gatsby and connected it to the modern culture of Hollywood celebrities today. Showing that the lives of those with fame and money is always followed by scandal.
